-Five years to develop Judo basics of Kodokan Judo
-Forty years to develop the spiritual aspect of Judo
-Maximum efficiency and mutual welfare and benefit, developed by Professor Kano, are the two main doctrines and soul of Judo.
The objective of Judo is to cultivate one’s body and mind to the fullest so that one may serve the preservation and general welfare of all mankind.
Through very hard workouts, one is able to cultivate one’s physical, mental and spiritual faculties and is able to apply maximum effort with efficiency to whatever goal one has to achieve.
It is important what trophy can be carried in one’s hands. More important is what one has learned about oneself and respect for others

The Infinite Wisdom of Judo
Last Updated on Sunday, 02 October 2011 00:06 Saturday, 01 October 2011 23:44
In a world where we see deception, greed and starvation, the student of Judo comes to the Dojo to learn the practice of “Mutual Benefit.”
In a world where we see an endless waste of time, money and energy and natural resources, the student of Judo comes to the mat to learn the practice of “minimum effort/maximum efficiency.”
In a world where we see technicalities, specializations and the lack of ability to use common sense, the student of Judo learns to relentlessly form the mind and body into the perfection of the student so that he or she can be of benefit to the world.
The principals and purpose of the study of Judo as created by Professor Jigoro Kano are 100 years old and yet they still apply.

Judo has been an integral part of my life for the past twelve years. I started taking classes at Sawtelle when I was ten and have continued to practice judo while attending UC Berkeley. I am currently the number two player in the country in the 60 kg division and recently took ninth at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

Judo taught me to be more responsible because I have to take care of my gi and notebook. Judo also taught me about commitment, which means to follow through everything at all times.
